Abstract
It wa found that Thalictrum thunbergii DC. var. hypoleucum has two distinct types, (¥°) and (¥±), with respect to the external morphology of the leaves, the number of stems attached to the root, and chromosome number.
Contrary to the previously reported chromosome number of 2n=42, the author found that the chromosome number of type ¥° is 2n=77, and that of type ¥± is 2n=84.
The anatomical examinations also revealed that type ¥° has dense root hairs and stone cells in the root cortex, and that type ¥± has sparse root hairs and no stone cells.
These different characteristics suggest that Tkalictrum thundergii DC. var. hypoleucum consist of two distinct taxa.
